About Me
My Journey:
I
love photography! I always have. I started with a Kodak disk camera,
traveling the world as a 'military brat' (not really 'military', my Dad
was a civilian but we lived overseas) taking photos of places and
people and events. Then, I used Dad's 35mm Minolta and embraced black
and white film, learning how to develop it in the base darkroom with my
fabulously talented and creative friend, Patty teaching me the ropes. I
embrace the memories that those snapshots captured, of a good life,
happy times, and youthful bliss. In the digital age, I've owned
countless point and shoots and cherish the photos I've taken of my
children (now 12 and 14 years old) and their accomplishments and lives.
I
started my company in August 2009 with my newly purchased (and first!)
d-SLR. It was a brave step that I never thought I'd take. I think I did
things backwards but have managed to grow from TAKING snapshots to
MAKING photographs. I continue to learn more about the fundamentals of
photography and continue to grow from my experience.
I
have chosen a different path to spread my wings as a photographer. I
can't say "I'm self-taught." because this simply is untrue. I am not
professionally trained, but have been embraced by a wonderful local and
regional photography community that has helped me learn the fundamentals
of my craft, tap into my creativity and enhance the photos that I make.
I am the Organizer for our local Photography Meetup Group's Strobist group. Basically, photographers of all skill-levels meet to learn, create, challenge and shoot using off-camera flash. This group is extremely dear to me and so much fun to lead! We have had gear donated to us by Westcott Lighting to help our fellow photographers learn and light. If you'd like to join us, click on the link in my recommendations and come out and meet us!
Finally I want to say, I am grateful to have an awesome family, supportive friends and amazing mentors who help me continue my journey as a photographer and business-owner.
